THE HISTORY OF REIKI

Dr. Mikao Usui

Born in 1865 in Japan, Dr. Usui received his schooling at a Buddhist monastery. He had an avid interest in learning and worked hard at his studies. He travelled to Europe and China to further his education. His curriculum included medicine, psychology and religion as well as fortune telling, which Asians have long considered to be a worthy skill.

There is still confusion over how he started his line of healing. Some stories say he went into the mountains, fasted and meditated for 21 days during which he received a vision. Others say that he was taught this knowledge from ancient Sanskrit writings.

The TJR System - Traditional Japanese Reiki (the system of Unity of self through harmony and balance) – say that his method is based on traditional Chinese medicine, a method laid out in the Yellow Emperor’s Classics Ling Shu, Su Wen and Nan Jing. This uses a number of meridians and channels that carry the energy around the body once every 24 hours. The flow of energy through these pathways may be influenced by means of both external methods (acupuncture and projected qigong) and internal methods (qigong meditation). Usui’s system uses the hand to project qigong energy into the recipient’s energy pathways.

After the Reiki one initiation, the energy flows directly from the hand into the body. Placing your hands over one of the energetic pathways can also send the energy around the body to various organs and systems.

Mikao Usui set up a group called the Usui Shiki Ryoho in Tokyo where he trained healers and teachers. Through this group many teachers have been trained in Japan.

Dr. Usui died in 1926. On his tomb are written the reiki Principles.

Dr. Chujiro Hayashi

Dr. Chujiro Hayashi was a medical doctor for the Japanese Navy. He received his teaching training from Usui when he was 47. He was the last person initiated by Usui before his death. Being of a medical background, he documented case histories and results. He ran a Reiki clinic for about ten years, during which time he developed a set of hand positions, which are the positions taught by Hawayo Takata. He also separated the Reiki training into 3 levels or degrees: level one, level 2 and the Master/Teacher level.

Mrs Hawayo Takata

Hawako Takata developed a serious illness which was not being treated successfully by conventional medicine. She heard about Usui’method of Reiki healing and travelled to Japan for treatment. After being successfully treated in Dr. Hayashi’s clinic, she decided to learn Reiki. Hawayo Takata spent at least one year working in Dr. Hayashi’s clinic before she received the reiki two training; After that she opened up her own clinic in Hawaii.

In 1938, she received her teacher training from Dr. Hayashi.

Takata seems to have been the one who started the story about Usui looking for the method of healing used by Jesus Christ, to make Reiki more acceptable to Americans. It is indeed now believed (from channelled information) that Reiki was one of the sources of healing energy used by Jesus. Giving Initiations was a fast way for Jesus to give healing abilities to his disciples, both men and women.

To give a value to Reiki healing and training, Hawayo charged $ 10 000 for the mastership/ teacher level and asked that all her students do the same.

Before her death in 1980, she trained 22 teachers.

Iris Ishikura

Iris Ishikura was trained by Takata between 1973 and 1980.

She was one of the first teachers to have broken away from tradition by charging less for trainings.

Reiki and Seichem Tera Mai™ history

Kathleen Ann Milner received her mastership in 1989. She also received a Seichem initiation which at that time was a different line of healing.

Under the direction of her spirit guides and Sai Baba, Kathleen brought these two lines together under the title of Tera Mai™.

Tera Mai™, as well as having the original Reiki healing energy of Earth, also has the Seichem initiations which include the healing energies of fire, water, air and ether. These can be passed on by a trained Seichem master/teacher. Kathleen is also giving initiations into higher healing energy dimensions with Sakara and Kohokia.

In Tera Mai™, there are a lot more symbols for people to work with, some shown to Kathleen personally and the rest from other people around the planet.

Cammalot® Reiki and Seichem history

Diana Angel and John Cosgrove were both trained in the Tera Mai™ line of Reiki. Each master/teacher from Kathleen Milner has contributed new information and qualities to Reiki and Seichem, from their own guides. These are all combined together in the Cammalot® Reiki and Seichem.

This line of Reiki is built upon the knowledge given to them by the traditional training by Usui and Takara, and the extra information given in the Tera Mai™.

For a number of years, the Cammalot® Reiki practitioners were aware of a Being working through them and guiding them. It was only in 1999 during a channelling meditation that they first came in conscious contact with this Being called Chakawi. They since then have channelled a lot of information from this Being who oversees the use of Reiki. This gave them a much deeper understanding of the Earth healing energies which have been available under different names for as long as mankind.

The first thing they were told:

“… no matter what line of Reiki you are initiated under or how good or bad your teacher may be, everyone is initiated into the same source of healing energy. The difference is, in how big an opening is made during the initiation, but even someone who receives a small opening is capable of becoming a powerful healer through their own practice and work.”

Chakawi also gave them new symbols for community and land healing.

On the 6 th of August 2000, they restarted the Healing Order of the Golden Dragon, an ancient aspect of Reiki which had died out 1,800 years ago in France.
